Compression level

Default mode aims to retain text and vector detail while reducing image size. Compression can change forms, annotations and signatures: keep the original and inspect the result.

Extreme compression — optional

75 DPI creates smaller images but can soften small text and barcodes. In image-only mode, oversized pages are automatically rendered at a lower resolution while retaining their PDF page dimensions.

Choose a PDF size and quality that work for you

Start with Balanced for everyday documents. When a scanned PDF is still too large, optional Extreme mode tries progressively smaller page images to reach your chosen file size. All document processing happens in your browser. Keep your original and check the finished pages before sending them to an office or document portal.

Before you download or submit

Review the finished result carefully before using it for office work, an employer, a school, the IRCC portal or another government website. Check page order, dates, names, signatures, readability and the file-size limit for the exact upload form. Keep your original file so you can make changes or provide a clearer copy later.

Can I compress a PDF by 99%?

Extreme mode includes a 99% reduction goal, but this is not guaranteed. It means reducing a 100 MiB file to 1 MiB. An oversized scan may offer substantial savings, while an already optimized document may not get smaller.

What happens if my target cannot be reached?

The tool offers the smallest processed PDF from up to four passes and clearly reports that the target was not reached. It does not substitute your original file.

What does Extreme mode remove?

Every page becomes an image. Selectable text, interactive fields and links are lost, and low resolution can make small print or barcodes unreadable. Avoid it for digitally signed documents or forms requiring interactive fields.

Does grayscale help?

It removes colour and may reduce the file size further. Leave it off when coloured stamps, photographs or other colour details matter.

Are my PDFs uploaded?

No. The browser processes the document on your device. Large files and repeated compression passes need memory and may take time, especially on phones.

Which file-size limit should I use?

Follow the exact limit on your upload page. This tool displays MiB, while some portals use decimal MB. Leave a little space below the stated limit and confirm the final file is accepted.
